Collaborative Prototyping

Iterative prototyping is a foundational value of design thinking in the innovation process.

As designers, users or makers, we all depend on our capacity to collaborate, and the willing to participate. The values that brings social innovation practices into any business or organization, are disruptive by nature, and a creative asset.

Design and Social Innovation

In partnership with Freshkills Park, a former landfill in Staten Island transformed into a park. I had the opportunity to engage with a local community of students, a young generation that may have forgotten what it is was like before the park. During conversations and the participatory design sessions we open interesting spaces for innovating with people. For example, from one of the workshops, a group of students from junior high, proposed creative new ways for plastic recycling and an awareness video to promote reduction on disposable material.

I am a passionate about social innovation and I believe is possible if we as designers open spaces for conversation and design to happen. Participatory design is a gateway method for generative horizontal distribution of decision and power. By introducing sustainable design practices to communities, as designers, we help put power back in the hands of people, instead of imposing ideas of how to habitats spaces.
